Kirk Norbury

Director of Photography - Timelapse Cinematographer

Hi! My name is Kirk and I’m a landscape, timelapse and travel photographer based in Ayr, Scotland. I have been working professionally as a photographer and filmmaker for 5 years since I quit working at a diy store and wanted to pursue my passion full-time. I originally studied Art and Photography at College in Southport, England which where I’m originally from. I grew up on a farm so having an interest in the outdoors came naturally to me and since I was a kid I’d always had an interest in art. I was always doing something creative. During college I thought I was going to go down the graphics design route but during this time I fell in love with photography and I ended up putting all my time and efforts into learning everything I could about photography. After moving to Scotland I put all my effort into my pursuit of becoming a professional photographer and now 5 years later I'm still hanging in there but loving it more than ever.

My creative style has changed over the years as I've practised in many techniques and been able to be a part of lots of diverse work. Timelapse was one of those areas that I came across many years ago after watching Tom Lowe's incredible "Timescapes" film which really inspired me to start creating my own timelapse videos with my DSLR, especially of the night sky around the Galloway Forest. Time-lapse requires a lot of patience and there's a lot of work that goes into creating one 10 second video but I don't what it is but when I see the final video it makes all that time and effort completely worth it. I've been very fortunate and have been a part of some great time-lapse projects with ITV Studios, BBC, Glenlivet & Macallan Distillery.

I love writing about my travels and  what I've learnt along the way. My work has has been featured in a variety of national magazines and I’ve also written many articles in print and online about photography and my particular approach to it.
