Review: Gitzo GT3541LS Tripod
About a month ago I decided to purchase the Gitzo GT3541LS Tripod, I had just upgraded my gear with a 600mm lens and the Wimberley Sidemount gimbal head so it just didn't seem right to have all this expensive equipment resting on top of a £120 tripod! I needed something sturdy that could take the weight and would last for years to come. I've used Gitzo in the past and they've been great for me so it felt right to keep using them as I've only ever heard good things about them.
When I first picked up the tripod the first thing I noticed was how light it is, even though it's longer and a lot more chunky than my previous tripod it felt great in my hand which gave me the confidence I could carry this for hours with no problems. When it's folded up and at it's shortest length it's a little longer than I expected but that doesn't really affect anything. The G-Lock mechanism is really good, very quick and easy to unlock the legs to close or to pull them out with no stress. One of the huge advantages that really made me buy this tripod was the fact it didn't have a center column, I've always hated those things, they've never been helpful to me and have always been a bit of a pain in the arse. The benefit of not having a center column means I can have the tripod as low as I want to get those low angle shots of wildlife without anything being in the way which is very handy.
I apologize that this review isn't pages long but I don't have much else to say about this tripod, it does exactly what it says on the tin. It's an amazing tripod that would suit any wildlife photographer, it's very easy to carry over your shoulder with the 600mm attached on top. I can see myself not having to upgrade my tripod for many years due to the high quality and how well built this tripod is. Another great thing about the GT3541LS is the price! I was surprised at how well priced it was when I went into the shop that day as I got it for £510 :). It's still quite new to me so I haven't found any problems with it yet but when I do (if I do) I will update this post with my findings.
If you have any questions about the tripod then please feel free to leave a comment or send me an email :)
